Lego Coffee Drinker of the week: Indiana Jones

June 6th, 2009 by Dave

While out looking for buried artifacts even Indiana is jonesin’ for java.  Chances of finding a Starbucks is slim so what should our hero do?

Dust off the now in vogue idea of brewing your coffee in an old school percolator.  Yes a percolator.  It doesn’t take hiring an archaeologist/adventurer to find one either.  Raid the ark of lost coffee percolators here:

Lego Coffee Drinker of the week: Cops and Coffee

May 30th, 2009 by Dave

Cops and Coffee go together like apple pie and ice cream.  It’s no secret that the key behind top notch law enforcement is the quality of their coffee.  Just as important as the quality of the law dogs’ go juice is the speediness in which they can make it.  Most Police officers have to be ready to jump at a moments notice when something pops off and they can’t be waiting around for a big pot to finish brewing.

Any good cop has to be a good problem solver and to solve the speed and quality quagmire they sometimes find themselves in when brewing coffee,  cops keep coffee pods in their ammunition belts.  Coffee pods are single serving packs of good quality coffee.  So they are ready for anything that is thrown their way.

Thanks Mr. Policeman for being so prepared.

Coffee Site Review: Coffeereview.com

May 21st, 2009 by Dave

What is the site about?

Coffeereview.com is a comprehensive web resource for reading cupping reviews of varieties of coffees.  Comprehensive isn’t a big enough word to describe this site.  It has everything you ever wanted to know about coffee including the coffee roast types, coffee roasting process, and even includes their proprietary 100 point scale cupping review process for each coffee bean tasted.

This is one of those sites when you start reading you immediately feel the passion these people have about tasting, roasting and brewing coffees of all kinds and varieties.  The knowledge that the sites’ founder Ken Davids has about coffee is also without question is above master level. What Are The Most Expensive Coffee Beans?

May 16th, 2009 by Dave

WHAT ARE THE MOST EXPENSIVE COFFEE BEANS?
Kopi Luwak is the most expensive coffee in the world, also going by the name civet coffee or civet cat coffee. Kopi Luwak coffee sells for anywhere between $100 and $600 per pound.  A cup of cafe Luwak coffee in an upscale restaurant would cost about $33.00 to $50.00.  Of the few restaurants or coffee shops that carry Kopi Luwak, it is reported that typical sales are about four cups sold per week.  Don’t let the Hawaiian sounding name fool you.  When you buy Kopi Luwak it is not coming from Honolulu as most great kona coffee is produced. The civet coffee beans originate from the islands of Sumatra, Java and Sulawesi which are located in the Philippines. Read the rest of this entry »

Using Coffee for Other Than Drinking: 15 Plus Uses

May 16th, 2009 by Dave

As many of us love to drink coffee in its brewed state,  there are some other uses for coffee in a brewed form as well as the “waste” that is produced as in used coffee grounds.  Some other uses are practical and many well known but included in this list are some not so well known uses and many I  don’t recommend but they are on this list for, in my opinion, entertainment value.

Here is the list with links to pages explaining the use in detail.  Comment on if you have practiced some of these unique methods to get more out of the coffee bean than its main  intended use. Read the rest of this entry »

A Video List of The Worst Vintage Coffee Ads

May 15th, 2009 by Dave

Vintage coffee ads have conditioned us over the years to buy a particular brand of coffee by either through a catchy jingle,  catchphrase/tag line or a combination of both. The addition of bad acting stuck into a 15 to 20 second television ad makes it much easier to determine the video list of the worst vintage coffee commercials.

In their day the top four advertisers were Folgers Coffee, The Maxwell House Coffee Company, Sanka Instant Coffee, and Nescafe’s Tasters Choice Instant Coffee.  Take a walk with me down memory lane and tell me if I am wrong in these being the top four worst vintage coffee commercials.
